Before I forget (again), I'm moving from this account [personal profile] uninvited to [personal profile] linoa.

I know I haven't been very active, but I've plans to pick up the pace and actually talk about things more. So.....

I wasn't sure if I should just mass add everyone, or just friend the people interested in getting friended. This is kinda my way of trying to gauge interest in the matter.

Goal - 100 books in a year (at least)
Snip Snip )

24/100 - 76 books to go

So now you know my awful reading habits. Is it obvious when I had access to only my mom's books?

Three and a half weeks ago I took a fall and hurt my leg... again. It's an old injury, though one that hadn't flared up this bad in a long time. Three weeks ago I almost passed out crutching to the bathroom because suddenly I couldn't breath no matter how hard or fast I tried.

Three weeks ago (as of Thursday/yesterday) I found out that thanks to my leg injury I'd managed to develop Deep Vein Thrombosis otherwise known as blood clots in my bad leg. This was found out because three and a half weeks ago when I fell, it dislodged one of those blood clots. Said blood clot was very large and ended up blocking over 95% of the blood flow to my lungs (A pulmonary embolism).

Thankfully it was caught in time (obviously since I'm still alive); however, it was rather too close for comfort. I spent about a week and a half in the hospital. I've not even been home two weeks yet. I just... haven't felt like talking about this incident in detail until now.

The incident put some hefty strain on my heart and did a number to my lungs as well. Not to mention I've got this nasty cough because of it now and they say I'll probably have it for a couple months at least. And to add insult to injury? I still can't walk. It'll be a month come Monday and I still can't bear to put any weight on my bad leg. So I'm largely bed bound at the moment because crutching is hard on my good leg and not exactly wonderful for my currently fairly wimpy lungs.

Which makes me pretty grumpy, no lie. I can't get food or well... anything for myself. I have to have a family member help. Just crutching to the bathroom or the front room is seriously hard and it leaves me panting and out of breath. Which is sad since the bathroom is now directly across from my room. It had been on the far side of the house, but with what's happened my kid brother gave up his room so I could be able to have at least the dignity of getting to the bathroom unaided.

I just thought I should come clean, update about what's going on, and reassure people that I'm not dead. Even though I came way too close - which was a huge wakeup call, but I'll leave that post for another day.

So uh... hi? Did I miss much?

Edit: Oh yeah! Apparently I already owe the hospital over 39k. Isn't that swell? :D

Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2010 (not including memes of course). Post the first line/sentence of it in your journal, and that's your "Year in Review"

January: As much as I love Rinoa, I've had enough of FF VIII's fandom.
February: Woah. First place for the Sin theme over at [profile] otp20in20?
March: Some of you might remember how about 9 months ago I hopped on a train rather spur of the moment and moved.
April:  ...As if I didn't need further proof of my geek-dom.
May:  Happy birthday to the Seifer to my Rinoa.
June: So since I was bored, I figured I'd at least register at eharmony though I've no real intention of actually using its service.
July: [No posts this month]
August: I've been meaning to make a couple of posts for... over a week.
September: Wow. i haven't posted in almost a month again. I suck.
October:
Sorry guys, spend so much time on Plurk and occasional posts on Tumblr that I tend to put off updating here
November: I've been horrible about posting again.
December: Originally posted by [personal profile] boosette at warning: purina pet food has started making pets ill

First Fandom of 2011:  Star Driver I guess technically it didn't finish it's run until April.
Favorite Main Character of 2011: Tough pick. So now I have to decide between Artemis, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, and Stephanie Brown as Batgirl.. wait no I don't. There I listed there. You can deal meme.
Favorite Villain of 2011:  I don't really do favorite villains, because I'm a derpy female protag type and as a whole don't like the idea of idolizing bad behavior. Because I need even more shoujo protag tropes in my life, right?
Favorite Video Game Character of 2011: Do my Grey Wardens count? No? Then Alistair.
Favorite Game of 2011: Dragon Age: Origins
Favorite Het Couple of 2011: Artemis/-Insert male teammate here- from Young Justice. No I'm not picking one, because that wouldn't be fair.
Favorite Yuri Couple of 2011: Seven/Sice from Final Fantasy Type-0. Newer ship, but I already ship it like burning. And the game isn't even out in english yet ooops
Favorite Yaoi Couple of 2011:  Apollo/Midnighter from the Authority. No really. (Though Billy/Teddy from Young Avengers is a close second)
Fandom That You Never Expected To Get Into:  DC/Marvel/Comics in general
Fandom That Made An Unexpected Comeback: Soul Calibur. Did not see that love reviving so far and so hard.
Fandom That Inspired The Most Crack: Young Justice, by far. I regret nothing - not bb!Punzel as Wally and Artemis' daughter, not truth or dare leading to makeout lessons between Robin and Artemis, and not hot and gritty aphrodisiac fueled sex between Kaldur and Artemis either.
Last Fandom of 2011: Soul Calibur.

So, are you excited for the new year?:  Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes! COME ON 2012. LET'S GO!
What was your favorite thing about this past year?:  Moving back home again. It hasn't always been good, but hey I get regular meals and have AC/Heat now so I'll take what I can get.
Who was your best friend(s)?: Bubbles and Al and Khalily and Laura and a bunch of people. I love everybody. ;A;
Did you fall in love this year?:  Since I categorize crushes and love separately, no. Platonically? That's another matter.
Did you get your heart broken?: Nope.
Did you get a new car?: Nope.
Go somewhere exciting?: I don't call "moving back to Louisiana" as going somewhere exciting, meme.
Did you have a resolution for 2011?: To further fall in love with myself and to learn how to fully ignore haters. Especially people who just hate me for little things like the way that I limp or how my body looks.
Did you dye your hair in 2011?: I started the year with medium dark-ish blonde hair. It's now light blonde. You do the math. :3
Lose any friends in 2011?: I don't think so? I've drifted apart from some, but I wouldn't count that as losing them.
Make any?: [personal profile] serys I guess? We figured out we lived down the street from each other last year, but we never actually got together until this year.
How much do you think you changed?: Not a whole lot I think? I'd like to think I'm a little happier, maybe a little more mellow. But that could be wishful thinking. I did learn to look to the present and future instead of dwelling on the past, so I guess there's that?
Did you grow any?: I'm still only 5'5". Did you have to rub that in? :(
What month was your birthday?: January. Same as last year and the year before that and the year before that and the... you get my point.
Was it special?: Nope. It was like any other day same as it always is. Oh wait! We went to the store and bought a cake from wal-mart. Does that count? ... There might have been ice cream involved too.
How were you in school?: Nope. I'm too poor and since I owe the one college I can't even get funding now.
Do anything you regret a lot?: Physically messed around with people I wish I hadn't in retrospect and attempted a really patheti-sad relationship.
Anything you regret NOT doing?: I regret not turning in that job application on time. :(
Was it a leap year?: No.
What are you most thankful for this year?: 3 square meals, a roof over my head, air conditioning, heating, and my (for the most part) continued health as an unemployed, uninsured individual.
Did anyone you love die in 2011?:  No.
How many significant others did you have?: None?
Did you get in trouble a lot?: Nope.
Who are you going to kiss at midnight?: No one. I can kiss you if you want. I have a handy monitor screen here I can pucker up at.
Who do you WANT to kiss at midnight?: ...Sore wa himitsu desu. B/
Who's house are you going to party at?:  I have no idea.
Going to watch the ball drop on TV?: No.
Will 2012 be better than 2011?: It has to be! Upwards and onwards! This year a new journal-site. Next year a new hometown! May 2012 be the year of new beginnings and new opportunities!

So I'm working on an unofficial [livejournal.com profile] solo20in20 run largely just because I feel like it. I wanted an excuse to make icons and the unofficial claim post they made yesterday seemed like a good reason to start.

They might not be perfect (in fact at least one of them sucks imho), but I'm having a on of fun making them.

I have a feeling I'm going to end up with a ton of icons that look similar to 8, because for some reason I just really, really like that one. So chances are each of the characters I have saved to my h-drive is going to end up with one.  Maybe I should make that my AC set and make a new 8. Hmmmm.....

So yes. this post was entirely for me to ramble about icons I made last night. XD; See this is why I don't update very often because I have nothing important to say.

Oh! Since I'm moving to DW and all ('Sup LJ people? This is my first crossposted post. Yay) I have a srs bsns question for everyone. I'm (obviously) going to need/want an icon comm here on Dreamwidth. The only question is what do I call it? So if you've got any ideas or suggestions  for what to name my DW Icon comm that'd be awesome.

Let's start with Livejournal and their new release. Now don't get me wrong, there are things I like about this change! However, a few good changes (that are implemented fairly poorly) don't outweigh the plenty of bad changes that have been made.

Subject lines aren't frivolous trappings. They're at the heart of a lot of things in how LJ is used by a lot of people. Comment pages that are so clunky that some people can't even load pages to say anything!

The shortcut keys are nice. I like ctrl left and ctrl right to go through pages! It's handy! I like the icon browsing too, but it should be optional. Loading 100+ full sized icon is a killer for people with slower connections or older computers. Sure mine can handle it, but there are those that can't.

And to top it all off? Those stupid brothers of mine at all the frosted animal cookies that mum bought for me special, because we'd been talking about them the other day. :( Their excuse was the bag was "already half empty", but even little kids know those bags are always half full of air when you buy them!

Combine this with the fact that I could be stuck with this dying piece of junk laptop for several more months and I just want to break down and cry. I hate crying, but between my hormones and everything else it's so hard not to right now. :(

Oh right. Importing my personal stuff over to DW. I just want a backup if nothing else. https://uninvited.dreamwidth.org/

I only have the one on Amazon currently, it's located here: My Wishlist.

It's a list made up entirely of books. It's got cook books, YA fantasy (O.R. Melling, Victoria Hanley, and more), a few books on magic, goddess theory, some of the sailor moon/sailor v re-release, and did I mention cook books? I've got cookbooks that focus on cuisine from a whole bunch of different countries: Japan, China, Wales, Ireland, England, and I think maybe one or two more.

I mean don't get me wrong. There are other things I'd love 0 Dragon Age 2 and Sims 3 anyone? But on the whole I'm pretty good right now. Or I will be once I get a new laptop

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] issendai at WARNING: Purina pet food has started making pets ill

My coworker John told me that his cat was seriously ill--throwing up, lethargic, refusing food, dropping weight. The previously healthy 6-year-old, 15-pound cat had lost a third of her body weight over the last few months. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. Blood tests were clean, and she didn't have any known illnesses. Yet she was a few days from organ failure.

That was a week ago. She's fine now. The solution was... to stop feeding her Purina cat food.

When John told me that, and said that friends of his had the same problem with their cats and Purina cat food, I looked into it. Holy shit. Take a look at the consumer complaints about Purina cat and dog food. This exact same problem has been an issue with Purina pet foods since 2007, but since this summer, the rate of complaints has picked up drastically. People who previously had to problems with Purina are reporting issues. Comment after comment sounds the same:

I've been feeding my three cats Fancy Feast canned food Chopped Grill Feast for many years. They have always devoured their meal and licked the plates clean. Last week, I noticed they did not want to eat much and went from plate to plate, ate a little. Next day, none of them would eat it. I kept trying new cans. What they did eat made them vomit and one cat was lethargic for days. I refuse to buy any more of this food. It's very scary. I don't know what is wrong with the food, but I fear it has toxins in it. I switched to another brand and the cats are fine now. Did anyone else experience this?

-----

My dogs have been eating Purina Dog Chow (green bag) for about four years. They used to eat only Iams, but due to financial issues, we had to go with a cheaper brand. The last bag I purchased was about a week and a half ago. My 14 years old Labrador has vomited about 5-6 times and my German Shepherd has vomited about 4 times. Something is wrong with this food! The food has a kind of metallic smell to it. It just does not smell right. I'm taking it back to the pet store. I am changing my dogs' food, it's just not worth taking the chance to save a few dollars.

-----

We purchased a large bag of Purina One Salmon dry cat food to give to a needy pet owner. She emailed us a couple of days later ,to say that there were maggots, lots of them with what looked to be like strands or webs with more dead gnats or flies, pieces of web in the food and "shells" of gnats or flies in the bag. Cats would not eat much of the food and, fortunately, they did not get sick. The store had noticed this problem in other bags and was willing to swap out.

-----

I purchased a 34 lb bag of Purina One Smartblend dog food every three to four weeks for my two Labradors. The last bag I purchased seemed fine until I noticed a new infestation of little black bugs. Upon further inspection through the contents of the bag, I noticed clusters of white "eggs" adhered to quite a bit of the food. Some of these clusters contained larvae in the process of hatching. I immediately threw out the remaining contents of the bag but did save samples for my vet.

We went out of town last weekend and had friends dog sit for us. We originally attributed their lethargy and random vomiting to separation anxiety. Although they are doing better, I am still concerned and will be watching them closely. As stated, I saved samples of the infested dog food for our vet in the event that anything results from this issue.

-----

I recently switched to the Friskies Poultry Variety pack (32 cans) that says it must be used by August 2013 (12281789 09:31 lo61237) sku (050000454242). I have 5 cats and feeding them this food, I noticed some of them throwing up. There's nothing in it but liquids, no hair ball, no food, nothing. My cats range from 8 weeks to 13 years old.

I switched my own cats to Purina a couple of months ago, and their coats look so much better than they did on the old brand of cat food... but Buffy has started vomiting stomach liquids. Purina and Fancy Feast are off the menu. Permanently.

I have no idea why this isn't news. But if you're feeding your pets any Purina brand, please don't wait for media confirmation that something is going on. Stop feeding your pets Purina immediately.

“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.”  The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.

Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.

So while I haven't read all 52 of the nu!52 titles DC has done for their relaunch I've read 36 of them. So let's have a nice chat shall we?

This is... probably going to take a while. 36 titles is a lot to talk about.

Lots of text and lots of opinions. Some strong and some not so strong. )

Okay so I ran out of stream there with the last few as it probably shows. But oh well.

So if it's not obvious I actually buy: Supergirl and Teen Titans right now. I'll be adding Superboy and maybe Batman and/or Aquaman to this. Otherwise that's probably it and the only thing I buy is Young Justice which wasn't touched by the reboot
